Week Three

This week’s assignment Is actually the first half of a larger piece of work that you’ll complete next week.

  1. CONSIDER YOUR AUDIENCE:
Using the questions on slide 6 of the notes, and readings from Redish and Chaffey, create two different “personas” of users who might utilize your client’s site. Make sure you identify the reasons they might come to the site, and what they hope to accomplish there.

Option 1:

Primary persona: Person who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, 35+, female

Goals are to be healthy and have a positive outlook on life.  Mental health is of utmost important.

The person has been searching the internet for answers and insight on their next  steps after a diagnosis and the decision to have surgery. They have searched various websites such as the American Cancer Society but they still desire more. They hope to find answers and someone who can relate to their situation.

Secondary persona:  Family and friend of someone who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Their goals are to find answers and understand how they can support their loved one. They have been searching the internet for answers. They have gone to various cancer websites such as Susan G. Komen and the American cancer society. They have information about the facts but want more knowledge on how to handle other components of the diagnosis.

Option 2:

Primary persona: Veteran Teacher – This is a teacher who has been teaching 5+ years. They are familiar with technology. However, teaching online during COVID-19 has been a challenge. They have explored various websites such as edutopia but they still need more information in preparation for the future.

Secondary persona: K-12 administrator – This is a principal or upper level administrator. They would like to know strategies they can use to better prepare their teachers for online teaching. They desire tools and strategy for efficient teaching and learning using technology. They have explored numerous websites from Edutopia to the associated press and CNN. They want their teachers to be better prepared to use technology for effective teaching and learning.

Potential Persona: Graduate Students – Graduate student who would like support in online teaching and to a small extent their degree program. They desire tools that will help them succeed in their online courses. They are familiar with the professional development that takes place via social media (ex. twitter) but would like additional support.

  • MAP THE TERRITORY:
Using the readings on Information Architecture, and the visual examples of sitemaps, put together a sitemap that efficiently lays out your site, categorizes pages, provides a clear path of navigation, and meets the needs of audience defined in Part 1.

Option 1

Option 2

  • WRITE THE WORDS:
Choose two pages or sections from the sitemap you created in Part 2, and write the content for those pages (you can omit text that would appear in the header, footer, or sidebar, like navigation menus). Use the tips from the Redish reading, as well as the inverted pyramid, chunking, efficient links, clarity and concision to streamline the experience for the audience you identified in Part 1.
